Ronnie Spector, the leader of The Ronettes, has died at the age of 78, her family has confirmed in a statement.
The â60s girl group icon died earlier today (January 12) âafter a brief battle with cancerâ, the statement â which was posted to her official website â read.
âShe was with family and in the arms of her husband, Jonathan,â Spectorâs family wrote. âRonnie lived her life with a twinkle in her eye, a spunky attitude, a wicked sense of humour and a smile on her face. Â She was filled with love and gratitude. Her joyful sound, playful nature and magical presence will live on in all who knew, heard or saw her.
âIn lieu of flowers, Ronnie requested that donations be made to your local womenâs shelter or to the American Indian College Fund. A celebration of Ronnieâs life and music will be announced in the future. The family respectfully asks for privacy at this time.â
