KT Tunstall has been named as this year’s recipient of the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection.

Yesterday (May 16), the Ivors Academy announced Tunstall as the 58th recipient of the award, following in the footsteps of Queen, U2, New Order, Pulp, Noel Gallagher and more. Most recently, Kamille was honoured with the prestigious award in 2023.

Tunstall will be presented with the award at The Ivors with Amazon Music, which takes place at the Grosvenor House in London, on Thursday, May 23. The awards ceremony will begin at 4pm BST, and can be streamed here.

Tunstall said of receiving the honour via a press statement: “My relationship with the Ivor Novello Awards began 18 years ago in 2006, with ‘Suddenly I See’ winning Best Song Musically and Lyrically. My statuette has remained the most meaningful of awards to me and coming full circle to receive this Outstanding Song Collection award feels like such a gesture of appreciation towards my work since then.”

Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy said: “KT Tunstall’s songwriting craft and achievements have impressed and evolved continuously throughout her music career. Eighteen years after her first win, it’s a privilege to welcome KT back to The Ivors and present this highly deserved Ivor Novello Award.”

To commemorate Tunstall’s receiving of the Outstanding Song Collection award, Amazon Music has now released a previously unheard demo of Tunstall’s iconic 2006 song ‘Suddenly I See’ – listen to it here.

KT Tunstall has released eight studio albums to date, starting with 2004’s ‘Eye to the Telescope’ and most recently releasing ‘Face To Face’ with Suzi Quatro in 2023.

Tunstall recently made headlines after striking up an unlikely friendship with Azealia Banks in the aftermath of comments made by the latter about Beyoncé’s new album ‘Cowboy Carter’. Banks had complained about the absence of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, before claiming that she “personally would have jumped out of my seat for a KT Tunstall appearance” on the record.

Responding to the comment by sharing NME‘s article, Tunstall has since replied on social media, jokingly writing: “To be fair, I’d have 100% got off the couch.” The back-and-forth continued, with Banks quoting Tunstall’s response and replying on Instagram: “’Suddenly I See’ is one of my favorite songs @kttunstall! I’m still banging that jawn!!”

Tunstall herself replied to Banks’ comment, saying: “Deepest thanks xxx In these strange times, I’m grateful I sat in my shitty basement in London and wrote these songs all on my own with no dilution – honest and raw, no agenda. More of that (and Joy please!) from all of us. Love to you.”
