Emily Blunt has been revealed to be behind the ‘documentary’ about Jim and Pam in the US version of The Office.
On the Office Ladies podcast, where John Krasinski (who plays Jim) was a guest on May 15, Pam actress Jenna Fischer unveiled Blunt as the mastermind behind Jim surprising Pam with footage of their relationship from The Office‘s fictional documentary team.
Fischer said that Krasinski suggested the idea that would “bring [Jim and Pam] back together” as the show ended, all thanks to his wife Emily Blunt. “I remember saying, ‘Greg [Daniels], we have to reveal what is in the teapot note before we end this show. People need to know this, but how do you do that?’ We couldn’t figure it out,” Fischer recounted.
“And I remember, clear as day, John, we were in the break room for some reason, and it was a Monday and you came in and you were doing your little shoulder shake that you do when you get real excited about an idea.”
“You were like, ‘You guys, you guys, you guys! I was talking to Emily [Blunt] this weekend. Listen. Listen. Okay. What is the one thing that this couple has that you wish you could have as a couple? They have their whole love story on tape!'”
“This documentary crew has been documenting this love story. I remember you saying, ‘Jenna, could you imagine if you could go back to that first date with Lee [Kirk] and someone had taped it and you could watch yourselves on that first date. Wouldn’t you just, like, lose it?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I would lose it.’”
Fischer continued: “And you’re like, ‘What if Jim asked the documentary crew to put together the footage and he shows it to Pam?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I would be a puddle.’ And then we just all got so excited about this idea.”
Krasinski added: “That sounds like a Blunt idea. That sounds like Blunt genius right there. And I just stole it.”
Recently, it was announced that an Office US spin-off would begin filming in the summer. Peacock announced on May 8 that the new series, as yet untitled, will not be a reboot, as per previous rumours, but will be instead set in the same universe as the US version of the hit show. It will feature a new cast and have its own storyline.
Ex-Machina actor Domhnall Gleeson and The White Lotus’ Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the cast; production on the show is set to begin in July.
In other news, Dakota Johnson has said her stint on ‘The Office’ was the “worst time of my life”.
