shinee taemin road to kingdom season two host announcement

South Korean cable network Mnet has announced the official line-up for season two of Road To Kingdom, including ONEUS, CRAVITY and more.

What is the premise of Road to Kingdom?

Road to Kingdom first premiered in 2020 as an idol survival programme, where seven boyband “with potential but mostly unknown to many” competed for the top spot, which would guarantee them an advancement to another survival programme, Kingdom. The first season starred PENTAGON, ONF, Golden ChildTHE BOYZ, VERIVERY, ONEUS and TOO, with THE BOYZ winning the top spot and advancing to Kingdom.

For its upcoming second season, Mnet announced a major rebranding to the show in early June. Road To Kingdom will now operate as an independent show instead of a prequel to Kingdom, with the aim of spotlighting rising boyband and introducing new benefits for the winning team. Specifics about the show’s new mechanics have yet to be revealed.

Who will star in the new season?

The show will star The New Six, CRAVITY, TheCrewOne (previously two separate groups: ATBO and JustB), 8TURN, ONEUS, YOUNITE and TEMPEST. ONEUS is notably the only group from the show’s first season to return, per Soompi.

On July 17, SHINee singer Taemin was announced by Mnet to be the sole host of the upcoming season of Road To Kingdom, per Star NewsIn the same announcement, the production team behind the series told the outlet: “There was no other candidate for emcees beside Taemin. As a senior [in the industry] and a role model for rookie boy groups, Taemin will have perspectives only he can share.”

Other stars involved in the show, including guest performers or mentors, have yet to be unveiled by Mnet, but are expected in the coming months leading up to the show’s premiere.

Is there a trailer for Road To Kingdom?

Mnet has yet to release any trailers for the show.

How do I watch Road To Kingdom?

Road to Kingdom will be broadcasted on South Korean cable network Mnet, however it currently remains unclear if the network has any plans to make the show accessible to international audiences.

Although no definitive premiere date has been announced as of writing, Mnet has confirmed that Road To Kingdom will be making its long-awaited premiere sometime in September this year.
