‘Manning Fireworks’ has been previewed by new singles ‘Rudolph’ and ‘She’s Leaving You’, featuring backing vocals from Karly Hartzman – MJ Lenderman’s bandmate from Wednesday.

‘She’s Leaving You’ was accompanied by a music video inspired by Creed’s Thanksgiving Halftime Show by-way-of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, mixed with ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’.

The track list for MJ Lenderman’s ‘Manning Fireworks’ is:

1. Manning Fireworks
2. Joker Lips
3. Rudolph
4. Wristwatch
5. She’s Leaving You
6. Rip Torn
7. You Don’t Know The Shape I’m In
8. On My Knees
9. Bark At The Moon

In a recent interview with The Guardian, MJ Lenderman revealed that the new album will be exploring masculinity. “I do notice [writing about masculinity] is a pattern with the songs – I think it’s just one thing, maybe, that I can speak to,” he said.

Earlier this year, the songwriter played and sang backup on Waxahatchee’s album ‘Tigers Blood’, which NME gave five stars.

NME said the record felt like “a burning fire, and it’s a warm summer evening at once”, praising “the decision to keep things intimate and simple in the studio, letting the band’s stellar and intuitive playing lead the way”.

Last year, MJ Lenderman released his single ‘Knockin’ which pays tribute to Bob Dylan – taking direct inspiration from his iconic track ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’.

“I was spending a lot of time watching John Daly videos and came across a rendition he does of Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’,” said Lenderman, discussing the reasons behind his reimagining of the song.

‘Manning Fireworks’ will be MJ Lenderman’s fourth studio album as a solo artist, and follows ‘MJ Lenderman’ (2019), ‘Ghost of Your Guitar Solo’ (2021) and ‘Boat Songs’ (2022). Last year, he released the live album ‘And the Wind (Live and Loose!)’.
