Zendaya Euphoria

Euphoria season three has now been confirmed to start filming in January 2025, with its entire main cast – including Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney – to return.

In a statement issued yesterday (July 12), HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orsi, says she is “thrilled” to reveal that the show will begin shooting this coming January.

“We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans,” the statement reads.

This announcement follows numerous reports about the delay of its third season – the show’s critically-acclaimed second season concluded in early 2022.

The new season was already on hold as show creator Sam Levinson worked on The Idol. Orsi told Deadline in May 2023 that Levinson’s work on that, plus Zendaya’s schedule and the then-ongoing writers’ strike, would likely push back the premiere to 2025.

The show also reportedly faced more delays following the death of Euphoria star Angus Cloud in August last year.

The delays were enough to apparently confound even its lead stars – Zendaya said in April that the show’s delays were “beyond me”, while Sweeney told NME that while working on Euphoria is “like home when I go back to it”, she doesn’t “know how soon I’m going home”.

Meanwhile, cast member Nika King shared during a stand-up comedy set that the delays have caused financial difficulties for her. “People are like, ‘We need season three’, and I’m like bitch, I need season three,” she said. “I haven’t paid my rent in six months.”

Other HBO shows like The Last of Us and The White Lotus are also expected to premiere their highly-anticipated new seasons in 2025.

On NME’s five-star review of Euphoria season two, Rhian Daly wrote that it “somehow ratchets up the misery even further, bringing nearly all of its major players deeper into its web of suffering.”
