Take-Two’s CEO has revealed how much they believe the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 should cost fans.

GTA6 was confirmed last year, but beyond a teaser trailer, not much else has been revealed about the latest instalment in the long-running franchise.

In a bid to find out any information about GTA 6, a 2023 interview with Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has been reshared by fans, with many worried that his comments point to GTA6 costing fans a lot of money.

Speaking to Forbes, Zelnick said that games could be priced at a “per-hour” value in the future.

“The increase in subscription pricing and linear entertainment is really a reflection of the fact that too many streaming services were underpricing to acquire customers, and then they realise those customers were not durable,” he explained, with everything from Netflix to Xbox Game Pass seeing price hikes in recent months.

“In terms of pricing for any entertainment property, basically the algorithm is the value of the expected entertainment usage, which is to say that the per-hour value times the number of expected hours, plus the terminal value that’s perceived by the customer in ownership if the title is owned or subscribed to,” he continued, seemingly teasing that the longer you play the game for, the more it should cost you.

However, following the interview, Take-Two released a statement [via The Gamer] that said “Strauss was outlining the overall, general pricing convention for entertainment, in no way did he suggest the need for a new pricing method for core games – and certainly not hourly rates.”

Typically, most AAA like GTA 6 games will set players back around £70, though there are also usually expanded, limited-edition versions of the title that will cost more. Earlier this year, Ubisoft defended the £50 price tag for live-service title Skull & Bones by describing it as a “quadruple-A” game.

Earlier this year, Take-Two laid off hundreds of members of staff and cancelled several games in a bid to “enhance” future profits. The publisher was then forced to deny that GTA 6 would be delayed, with the game still due for release in 2025.

In other news, a new report has suggested 2023’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 could be coming to Xbox Game Pass sometime this month.
