An episode of The Simpsons has been removed from Channel 4’s schedule following a shooting at a Donald Trump rally over the weekend.
The former US President was hit on the ear and rushed off stage during a rally on Saturday (July 13) in Pennsylvania after a gunman opened fire, with the gunman – identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks – and an audience member killed.
The following day (July 14), Channel 4 was scheduled to show The Simpsons episode ‘Lisa The Iconoclast’ as part of a run-through of season seven, though this was later replaced by season 30’s ‘Baby You Can’t Drive’.
Some fans online speculated that this change was linked to the Trump news, with the pulled episode containing a similar scene in which Lisa stands on stage while a law enforcement officer aims a rifle at her from a nearby rooftop.

The episode itself follows Lisa as she discovers that Springfield founder Jebediah Springfield was actually a murderous pirate who tried to kill US President George Washington.
Another fan speculated: “Just to add to this that Jebediah Springfield trying to kill George Washington is also a major plot point in the episode, so it might have been pulled because of that without anyone remembering this specific sniper scene.”

Following the Trump assassination attempt, many figures in the entertainment world have shared their reactions, including 50 Cent, M.I.A., Kid Rock, and Freddie Gibbs, while fans of Lana Del Rey have also been sharing memes online.
Trump released a statement after the shooting, saying he was “fine” and thanked Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers for their “rapid response”.
“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and also to the family of [those] badly injured,” he added. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”
