Charli XCX has shared that she would like to “make a Lou Reed record” following the success of her latest album ‘Brat‘.

The pop pioneer recently discussed her music career and what may come next as a follow-up to her sixth studio album. Speaking to Billboard in a new interview, the ‘Club Classics’ singer revealed that she will be spending a few weeks in Poland working on a film and shared what may come from her music in the long term.

XCX told the publication that she will be in the country for three weeks next month while working on the film project and said: “Well, I don’t really know if I should say because I also don’t know if we’re going to do it. We might actually just go to Poland and not do that, but that is the idea.”

She also explained the reasoning behind Poland saying the film will take place there, adding: “We would write it and shoot it at the same time, kind of like making an album. One of the guys is the director — he works that way all the time.”

As for the direction of her music career, she quoted a tweet she saw that read “Does anyone think that this is Charli’s last album?” referring to ‘Brat’ and she added: “I was like, ‘Actually, that could be cool if I didn’t really make music anymore after this.’ I’m definitely thinking about it because I really want to act. I don’t know. I’m just so deep in this, I can’t see outside of ‘brat’, but it’s funny. I kind of want to make a Lou Reed record, to be honest. That would definitely be a pretty big swing.”

Elsewhere in the interview, XCX opened up about the creation of the ‘Girl, so confusing’ remix which features Lorde and revealed that the idea for the track came from the ‘Melodrama’ singer herself.

She explained: “I had to go through the process of telling her that this song is about her and her being OK with that first. I was trying to meet up with her for almost a year, and we kept having this weird, like, we were [going to], then we wouldn’t. It spoke to the narrative of the song itself. In the end, it didn’t work out.”

XCX continued: “Then the day before the record came out, I left her a voice note. [Lorde] replied straight away and was like, ‘Oh, my God, I had no idea you felt this way. I’m so sorry.’ And then was like, ‘You know, maybe I should be on a version of the song.’ I didn’t even ask her. She brought it up.”

In a four-star review of ‘Brat’, NME wrote: “On the self-described “club record”, XCX offers pure party girl hedonism. Percolating beats, brash synths, left-field production and vocal lines that flit between bratty quips or honest one-liners.”

“With ‘Brat’, XCX demonstrates that going her own way will always sound pretty good,” it added.

In other news, the ‘Apple’ singer also recently shared that she doesn’t “envisage myself making music forever”, explaining: “I would like to flex my creative muscles on other areas. I don’t envisage myself making music forever,” she said (via The Sun’s Bizarre column).

“Maybe I will in some capacity, but I just feel like there are other creative areas I really want to explore.”
