A new documentary about Skepta is reportedly in the works, and set to be directed by BAFTA nominee Hector Dockrill.
Announced by Variety, the forthcoming project is set to see Skepta’s production company, 1PLUS1 Production, join forces with US hospitality and lifestyle marketing company the H.Wood Group for the first time.
It is reportedly set for a release in 2025, and is being described as a “stirring documentary about the artist focusing on themes of cultural identity and artistry”, according to a press release shared with the outlet.
Dwight Okechukwu for 1PLUS1 will be producing the documentary, alongside John Terzian, Brian Toll and Jeremy Allen for H.Wood Media.
“I am thrilled and excited about our new partnership with powerhouse H.wood media, based in Los Angeles,” said Okechukwu of the new project (via Variety). “As we embark on this collaborative journey, I am truly excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
“I find Jeremy, John and Brian very inspiring and supportive. It’s a great pleasure to be working with partners that move so efficiently.”
Terzian also shared a statement about the forthcoming documentary, stating: “H.wood media is about telling the stories behind the personalities who shape culture and Skepta is undeniably the perfect subject for us.
“His emotional and inspiring journey will resonate with audiences around the world and we are honoured he entrusted us to tell his story and work with us on future storytelling.”
Although all other details about the film remain unknown for now – including the title and exact release date – it seems likely that the approach may be similar to that in the Post Malone documentary Runaway. This comes as both see BAFTA nominee Hector Dockrill take on the role as director, and look to tell the story of the artists’ journey so far.
The decision to create a new feature-length documentary about the UK Grime MC comes following Skepta taking home the prestigious Mercury Prize for his 2016 album ‘Konnichiwa’, and venturing into the world of film at the start of 2024 with his short Tribal Mark.
When asked by Variety in May whether or not he could see himself making a feature-length film one day, the rapper said that he was open to the idea. “Even if you listen to my albums, I always have skits, so I feel like I’ve always had a movie in my mind somewhere,” he said.
The Post Malone project by Dockrill arrived back in 2022 and followed Posty as he embarked on his huge 2019 tour. It included backstage footage, live performances, and interviews with both the rapper himself and others.
“I already knew Post Malone was a force before going on tour. But then, after spending time with him, unfiltered, close, and personal, I very quickly realised he’s unlike anything the world has seen before,” Dockrill said at the time.

More details about the Skepta documentary are expected to be shared later in 2024.
In other news about the Grime artist, earlier this summer the musician – whose real name is Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr. – revealed that his clothing line MAINS is set for a new runway show in September, and he was looking for models to feature there.
MAINS was first launched by Skepta in 2017 before putting it on hold two years later due to an “amicable” split he had with his partner manufacturer at the time, per Vogue. MAINS was then revived in 2022.
As for new material, Skepta is currently readying the release of the album ‘Knife and Fork’, which will end a five-year wait for fans since 2019’s ‘Ignorance is Bliss’. However, his upcoming sixth album has yet to receive a release date.
On his hiatus, Skepta wrote to fans in January: “I’ve seen the messages, tweets and TikToks, I’m truly grateful that my music is still resonating with the world, even in my absence.”
As for his time venturing into the acting world, the aforementioned short film Tribal Mark, saw him make his filmmaking debut as co-director and lead actor.
Since its release, Skepta has expressed plans to NME to follow it up with a full-length feature that continues its story.
“It’s like the Black James Bond thing that everyone was trying to do,” Skepta told NME. “We wanted to make something [where] after I’ve done the movie, I’m like, ‘OK, cool – it’s the franchise now.”
