Denzel Curry A$AP Rocky

Denzel Curry has released a new single ‘HOODLUMZ’ featuring A$AP Rocky, ahead of his latest album ‘King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2’, which releases today (July 19).

‘HOODLUMZ’ sees the first-ever collaboration between Denzel Curry and A$AP Rocky. Rapper PlayThatBoiZay also features on the track, which sees the trio spitting verses over a heavy and skeletal Southern hip-hop beat. In his verse, A$AP Rocky references the Playboi Carti track ‘R.I.P.’ and gives a shout-out to a 1998 “blonde lace” Eminem.

‘HOODLUMZ’ is the closing track – second to the album’s outro – of ‘King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2’, Curry’s follow-up to his breakout 2012 mixtape ‘King Of The Mischievous South Volume One Underground Tape 1996’.

That release saw Curry draw heavy stylistic inspiration from the Southern hip-hop of the 1990s, a scene that birthed artists like Three 6 Mafia, DJ Screw, The Geto Boys, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, and Tommy Wright III, among others.

In ‘King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2’, he builds on that spirit by including guest artists from different generations – like Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J, Project Pat, and 2 Chainz, along with contemporaries like Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Ty Dolla $ign, Maxo Kream, and Ski Mask the Slump God. Kingpin Skinny Pimp also contributes to the album’s intro, outro and interlude tracks.

Last Sunday (July 14), Curry appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Rap Show alongside PlayThatBoiZay for a freestyle.

Curry is set to perform at Reading and Leeds 2024, which will return for the August Bank Holiday weekend this year. Tickets are on sale now for both locations and are available for purchase here (for Reading) and here (for Leeds).
