A producer for Little Mix has said Jesy Nelson‘s vocals were sung by an impersonator for one of their last songs as a quartet.
Nelson originally left Little Mix in 2020, reasoning that the band had taken a “toll” on her mental health. Though the girl group continued as a trio after her abscence, they announced they were taking a “little break” to focus on each member’s respective solo projects once their ‘Confetti’ tour ended in 2022.
Now, a producer has shed further insight into the behind-the-scenes before Nelson’s departure. On Saturday (July 20), producer Tré Jean-Marie took to his Instagram stories to share his memories of the group’s 2020 single ‘No Time for Tears’, which was their final single as a group of four.
Jean-Marie, who produced the song with Nathan Dawe, wrote (as per The Independent): “Fun Fact: All of Jesy’s BVs [backing vocals] (and even one of the leads) on ‘No Time for Tears’ are somebody else impersonating her because she was quite literally over it.”
Nelson’s representatives did not respond to The Independent’s request for comment.
Perrie Edwards recently opened up on her “heartbreaking” Jesy Nelson rift.
The singer has been teasing a new song about a past friendship following on from her debut single ‘Forget About Us’. Although Edwards has not specified exactly who the song is about, she has opened up to Cosmopolitan about her particularly significant ex-friendship with Nelson in a new interview.
Saying that her and Nelson “don’t talk, and haven’t done for a long time,” she added: “It’s really sad, it’s heartbreaking.”
“But sometimes these things happen and people decide they want to part ways, and that’s absolutely fine. I would rather it went differently, but you can’t control how things go.’”
Meanwhile, Leigh-Anne Pinnock has previously admitted Little Mix needed therapy after Nelson’s “traumatic” departure, recalling: “The whole thing was abrupt and sad and then it was messy.
“We were a family, the four of us were like sisters, and we had been that way since we were teenagers, so it’s not an over-exaggeration to say that losing a member was a traumatic experience.
“When you have felt so much love and support with another person over such a long time and then that suddenly disappears you never fully get to understand why it hurts.”
