Eminem and Taylor Swift

Eminem has knocked Taylor Swift off the top of the Billboard 200 after 12 weeks with ‘The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)‘.

Much like the UK it was the rapper’s 11th Number One album in the US after it shifted 281,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 18, according to figures from Luminate (via Billboard).

His 12th studio album ties him with Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and Kanye West with the fifth most Number Ones on the Billboard 200 chart. The Beatles with 19 chart topping albums, Jay-Z and Swift (each with 14), are among the artists ahead of them.

Of ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)”s 281,000 first-week units, streaming equivalent units clocked in at 164,500, album sales comprised 114,000 (all from digital downloads as it wasn’t available as a physical album) and track equivalent albums totalled 2,500.

The album’s first-week sales also marked the biggest week in 2024 for a rap album.

His latest landmark comes after the album also topped the UK Albums Chart last Friday (July 19).

He joined the likes of Swift again, David Bowie, and U2, who also have 11 chart-topping albums within their current discography.

Eminem’s other chart-topping albums include 2000’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’, 2002’s ‘The Eminem Show’, 2004’s ‘Encore’, 2005’s ‘Curtain Call: The Hits’, 2009’s ‘Relapse‘, 2010’s ‘Recovery’, 2013’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2‘, 2017’s ‘Revival‘, 2018’s ‘Kamikaze‘ and 2020’s ‘Music To Be Murdered By‘.

In a three-star review of ‘The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, Jordan Bassett wrote for NME: “So, who killed Slim Shady? In bringing him back to the light and showing him up as irrelevant, perhaps Eminem’s done his old pal in for good. OK, we get it – Shady was a shocking character. Now that he’s dead, how about getting some new material?”

Elsewhere, Eminem recently appeared at a Gin & Juice event in London alongside Dr. Dre to perform ‘Houdini’ and ‘Forgot About Dre’.
