Welsh noise rock trio Mclusky have shared details of their surprise reunion album.

A characteristically brief statement on X/Twitter read: “mclusky were a band between 1999 and 2005 and now they are a band again.

“I know, mindblowing. go wonder at the night. mclusky are recording a new album. it will be released on ipecac in 2025. mclusky firmly believe that all djs should be French.”

In a reply to a fan asking about a UK tour and potential physical re-releases, they wrote: “the two double a’s will be on the record I would expect we’re doing three shows (Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham) in a week or so, then I would think a full UK tour next year.”

The band formed in 1999 and released three albums – ‘The Difference Between Me And You Is That I’m Not On Fire’, ‘Mclusky Do Dallas’ and ‘My Pain And Sadness Is More Sad And Painful Than Yours’ – before splitting in 2005, although they’ve reformed over the years under a number of guises.

At the time, frontman Andy ‘Falco’ Falkous shared a statement, assuring fans “the reason for this parting is private, though probably not as entertaining as you’d imagine”, and later went on to name his price for a reunion.

In conversation with NME ahead of a one-off benefit show for Newport venue Le Pub in 2014, he joked: “I’ve always said my price for a proper Mclusky reunion would be £200,000 for just me – to cover the self-respect I’d lose.”

In 2021, the band also topped the bill of a livestream event in aid of learning disabilities and autism charity Gig Buddies, organised by IDLES bassist Adam ‘Dev’ Devonshire.

The following year, they were forced to postpone their Australian tour in support of the 20th anniversary of ‘Mclusky Do Dallas’ due to singer Falkous’ ongoing health issues.

Most recently, they surprised fans by releasing their first new material in 19 years. In 2023, they shared a AA-side single called ‘Unpopular Parts Of A Pig / The Digger You Deep’ and teased a full comeback album.

In a statement about the comeback tracks, Falkous wrote: “at the above link are four mclusky songs, newly recorded and flattened into shape – the first release since 2004 (you can use the calculator on your phone to find out that’s nineteen years, which is the lifecycle of four hairstyles).

“the first two songs, ‘unpopular parts of a pig’ and ‘the digger you deep’ should make the album we are releasing next year (we’re hopefully finishing up the recording in february). anyway, medium story short, we’re hoping to rearrange our US dates for march of next year and need to raise money for visas hence this here, now, at this price.”
