Despite the evidence pointing to Ember’s late husband Malachy Granger, Ember discovers she was the one who killed Amy Knightly in a driving accident.

As shown in a flashback sequence, a young Ember, who was high on drugs at the time, drove with Arj (Matthew McNulty) from her birthday party to pick up Malachy, who was having an affair with underage Amy. After picking him up, Ember accidentally hit Amy who was wandering away from the house crying after Mallachy ended their romance.

Amy’s body was found by Malachy and Arj at the bottom of the embankment, where her head had been cracked open on a rock. Seeing she was dead, Mallachy told Arj to bury her body in the basement of the boat hut.

In order to protect Ember who couldn’t remember the night’s events, Malachy convinced Arj, who had also been high on drugs at the time, he had been the one in the driving seat.

What happened to Ember?

Ember remembers she killed Amy during an encounter with Arj, where he admits he was the one who had dug up Amy’s remains and set fire to the boat hut in order to conceal the evidence, in light of the property’s planned renovations.

He also admits to killing podcaster Riz Samuel (Weruche Opia), after her private investigator had discovered a bone fragment in the rubble – leading to a fight between Arj and Riz.

After Ember remembers she was the one who killed Amy, a furious Arj strangles Ember. She later wakes up and sees Arj has doused her and himself in petrol, but as Arj sets himself on fire, Ember manages to jump to safety into the water.

With Arj dead, Ember lies to the police and tells them he was responsible for Amy’s death, so she can continue to be with her daughter Hannah (Ruby Stokes).
