Lisa Simpson and Kamala Harris

A writer from The Simpsons has reacted to news the show predicted Kamala Harris’ presidential nomination.

Over the weekend (July 21), Joe Biden announced his exit from the presidential race and endorsed Vice President Harris to be the next presidential candidate for the democrats.

The 81-year-old plans to serve out the remainder of his term in office, which ends at noon on January 20, 2025. He immediately endorsed Harris to be the next president of the US, and explained that the decision was made “in the best interest of my party and the country”.

A host of stars soon came out to respond to his departure, including Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Barbra Streisand, and a plethora of famous faces came forward to back Harris, including John Legend, George Takei, Jamie Lee Curtis and Charli XCX.

Now, on social media, a meme has been going viral after a long time writer and showrunner on The Simpsons, Al Jean, posted a picture of Harris alongside one of Lisa Simpson from the show.

Taken from the episode, Bart To The Future, the picture shows Lisa when she becomes President of America in the future. The comparison garnered much attention on social media because Lisa’s outfit was eerily similar to the one Harris wore during Biden’s inauguration. Both can be seen in pearl earrings, a pearl necklace and a purple blazer.

The Simpsons has a long history of seemingly predicting the future – including Donald Trump’s presidential bid.

Speaking to NME in 2017, Jean said of the uncanny predictions: “One of our writers, the guy whose episode predicted Donald Trump as president, said it best: ‘If you write 700 episodes, and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad. If you throw enough darts, you’re going to get some bullseyes.’”

Meanwhile, since it was announced that Harris would be representing the Democratic Party, outlets including Stereogum have reported that the politician’s campaign has raised a reported $81million in the 24 hours since Biden dropped out. If that figure is correct, it will be the largest single-day total raised by any candidate in US history.

Since then, her team has honed in on the support from Charli XCX and launched a new Twitter banner in the style of the artist’s ‘Brat’ artwork – which led to CNN having to explain the ‘Brat Summer’ trend to its viewers.

Similarly, social media has been reacting to Chadwick Boseman’s final Twitter post, which voiced support for Kamala Harris, and TikTok star Harry Daniels caught Harris off-guard by serenading her with a rendition of Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’.
