40,000 people have attended the “largest hard techno rave ever” in Amsterdam – watch footage of the huge rave below.

The Verknipt ArenA rave held at Johan Cruijff ArenA took place on July 20, where ravegoers were kept on their feet for 10 hours from 9pm to 7am. The event saw the likes of Shlømo, DIØN and Sara Landry go behind the decks to DJ.

In an Instagram post, organisers Verknipt wrote: “We just wrote history with the largest hard techno rave ever, where 40,000 ravers united in chaotic harmony, revelling in distortion, breaking the rules, and exploring sounds that push the boundaries of the rave culture.

“Here, we are all slaves to the rave and trailblazers of the future”. Take a look at the giant rave down below:

In March this year, it was announced that Berlin techno had been added to the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

The inclusion of the music genre in the heritage list comes after a collective of DJs, festival organisers and fans campaigned to have the security of the city’s techno scene after fearing the culture wouldn’t survive without it being added to the list.

Techno now joins five other entries (including mountaineering, fruit wine, and a Bavarian parade named Kirchseeoner Perchtenlauf) that have also been added as well.

Meanwhile, FKA Twigs has also teased a techno-inspired new album, revealing that she was in the studio working on a new album with electronic musician and frequent collaborator Koreless.

She shared that techno served as a significant point of reference while making it: “I moved to Prague a couple summers ago, fell in love with techno. The album isn’t techno but the spirit is there for real.”

In other rave news, Jamie xx has announced ‘The Floor’ residencies in New York and LA. The DJ, producer and member of The xx is due to bring ‘The Floor’ to the US this summer after hosting a 10-night showcase in London in May: buy your tickets here.
