NME’s latest star of The Cover, Wishy, have shared a playlist exclusively to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Indianapolis five-piece are on this week’s (July 29) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Wishy here, written by Huw Baines and featuring photography by Rian Archer.

Accompanying the story is an exclusive playlist Wishy have compiled, ‘Twee Classics’, featuring hook-filled indie-pop from acts including of Montreal, The Pastels, Talulah Gosh, Rocketship and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

Since forming in 2021, Wishy have gained attention for their knack for writing beautifully wrought, candy-coated hooks that put melody front and centre in their work. Their upcoming debut album ‘Triple Seven’, released on August 16, is no different. “I want to write music that I want to listen to,” singer and guitarist Nina Pitchkites told NME. “A lot of music snobs have things to say about bands that just write hooks – I guess some people would say it’s predictable or something. But I don’t care. I want to hear a good hook. That’s it. It’s pretty simple.”

Elsewhere in their Cover story, Wishy reflect on how Pitchkites and Kevin Krauter joining forces had helped them rediscover the joy of making music, revisiting their favourite sounds of the past without making them “hokey or too nostalgic”, their growth as a group and more.
