stray kids bts jimin top two billboard 200 chart

K-pop musicians – namely boyband Stray Kids and BTS singer Jimin – have occupied the top two spots of the Billboard 200 for the first time in the chart’s history.

Billboard announced yesterday (July 28) that new released by K-pop acts Stray Kids (‘ATE’) and BTS’ Jimin (‘MUSE’) had debuted at Number One and Number Two on the Billboard 200 chart respectively. This marks the first time K-pop records have occupied both top positions in the chart’s history.

Stray Kids earned an equivalent of 232,000 album units in the US alone in the week ending July 25, per Luminate. It marked the largest sales week for any K-pop release in 2024 so far. Meanwhile, BTS singer Jimin came in second place with 96,000 units sold in the same timespan.

Additionally, ‘ATE’ is also Stray Kids’ fifth consecutive Number One album in a row, making the eight-piece the first-ever group to debut at the top spot with their first five charting albums. They previously topped the chart with ‘Oddinary’, ‘Maxident’, ‘Rock Star’ and ‘5 Star’.

In other K-pop news, Korean-Canadian singer Jeon Somi will be releasing new music later this week, her label has confirmed. It will come a year after she released her last mini-album, ‘Game Plan’. Prior to that, she dropped her debut studio album ‘XOXO’ in October 2021.

Meanwhile, GOT7‘s Yugyeom has announced his upcoming 2024 ‘Trusty’ tour, featuring concerts in Australia, Singapore, Taiwan and more. Plus, co-ed group KARD have will be heading on their 2024 ‘New Era’ tour in North America this October and November.
