My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance have quashed hopes of a reunion after a series of strange posts emerged on their Facebook page over the weekend.

Given the band have often utilised social media to tease various projects, when they changed their profile picture on Facebook, some fans believed they had an announcement prepared.

Scepticism grew when the band proceeded to post a number of bizarre posts, leading fans to question if there was a legitimate reunion on the horizon or if they were hacked.

One news story shared on the band’s Facebook account pointed to country singer Keith Urban‘s supposed prostate cancer, whilst another grieved the loss of Corey Comperatore, who was killed at the rally where former President Donald Trump suffered an attempted assassination. Another claimed that US TV show host Greg Gutfield managed to “outshine” The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert.

While some reached for meaning, speculating in the comments: “What if this is some sort of publicity stunt for an upcoming album?” – the band have now clarified it was no such thing.

Writing on Instagram, they said: “Our Facebook got hacked,” warning fans: “Don’t believe everything you read!” Many have taken to X/Twitter to express both disappointment and a general lack of surprise, with one joking: “I survived the great My-Chemical-Romance-FaceBook-Hack of 2024.”

The band’s last post was shared in November last year, to promote their slot at When We Were Young Festival, the 2024 edition of which is set take place October 19 this year in Las Vegas.

The emo icons wrapped up their lengthy reunion tour in March this year. Their first show back together took place in December 2019, and their COVID-delayed world tour began with two shows at The Eden Project in Cornwall last summer.

The band’s most recent material was 2022’s ‘The Foundations of Decay’ – a surprise single that that marked their first new release in eight years, with their last full-length album being 2010’s ‘Danger Days’.
