Chappell Roan wrestling

Wrestlers have shared their reactions to Chappell Roan’s outfit during her Lollapalooza 2024 set, in which she came out dressed in lucha libre attire.

During her set today (August 2) at Chicago’s Grand Park, where she took to the T-Mobile stage at 5pm to a packed crowd, Roan came out in colourful spandex and a neon-blue mask. Her band’s drumset was also surrounded by a mock-up of a wrestling ring.

Fans on social media were quick to point out its close resemblance to attire from lucha libre – a popular form of wrestling originating in Mexico, which sees its wrestlers wearing masks to conceal their real-life identities.

Wrestlers also took notice, especially those from wrestling company All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Willow Nightingale was notified about Roan’s outfit by fans, tweeting: “Fans tagging me about this says a lot.”

She followed it up with an open invitation to attend an AEW show in the future. Fellow AEW wrestler Nyla Rose, on the other hand, jokingly challenged Roan to appear at the company’s forthcoming Wembley Stadium event, All In 2024.

Renee Paquette, who appears on AEW as an on-screen personality, shared a clip of Roan’s set on her Instagram Stories and tagged her employer: “Can we please book her???”, she wrote.

Fans were understandably excited at the thought of Roan appearing on a wrestling show in the future.

In June, X user @abbipaperbag shared that AEW wrestler Hangman Adam Page is also a noted fan of Roan, having previously featured her on his public Spotify playlist, which has since been deleted. “Fun fact, Hangman was the one who introduced me to Chappell Roan in 2022,” the user writes. “He had ‘Pink Pony Club’ on his spotify playlist”.

The NME cover star released her debut studio album, ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’, last September. In a four-star review, NME described it as “a display of Roan’s bold and brazen pen, where she places searing revelations alongside some deliciously cheeky choruses”.
