Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed has reportedly been delayed.

First announced in 2020, Avowed is a fantasy action role-playing game set in Eora, the world from Pillars Of Eternity. In 2023, it was confirmed Obsidian were aiming for a late 2024 release but no firm date has ever been confirmed.

It’s now been reported that Avowed will be delayed until 2025.

Writing in The Verge’s Notepad newsletter, journalist Tom Warren said (via Eurogamer): “I’m hearing that Obsidian is about to announce an Avowed delay to early 2025,” with Microsoft expecting a “very busy period” for Xbox Game Pass.

Earlier this month the first Call Of Duty title, Modern Warfare 3, launched on the subscription service while the upcoming Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to be a day one release.

A firm release date for Avowed has never been shared but a developer blog accidentally leaked that it had been due to release November 12.  Black Ops 6 is due to release October 25, while Stalker 2: Heart Of Chornobyl was recently pushed back to November 20 to allow developers GSC Game World more time to work on big fixes.

According to Warren, Avowed is in “good shape” and the delay is “more a matter of [developers] wanting to give the game breathing room”.

Earlier this year, game director Carrie Patel said the studio “set out to blend the believable and the fantastical, to give players a world and experience like no other. Avowed is an adventure into the heart of the Living Lands, a frontier at the edge of the known world,” she continued. “You must put a stop to a mysterious spiritual plague and discover a secret at the heart of The Living Lands.”

She went on to say that the ”rich, weird and wonderful” title lives up to the studio’s reputation of creating games with “deep themes, dynamic gameplay and thoughtful reactivity.”

In other news, Avalanche Software is hiring more staff, seemingly confirming the rumoured sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development.
