big bang g-dragon juspeace foundation drug abuse charity

Big Bang member G-Dragon has launched a new charity foundation in a bid to combat drug abuse in South Korea.

Yonhap News Agency reported today (August 5) that the Big Bang rapper has launched a new charity foundation called JusPeace foundation, in a bid to both support artistic talent and combat drug abuse among the South Korean public.

A portmanteau of the words “justice” and “peace”, the JusPeace foundation held its inaugural event in Seoul today, said G-Dragon’s agency, Galaxy Corporation. G-Dragon will be serving JusPeace as its honorary chairman, while Galaxy Corporation CEO Choi Yong-ho will serve the foundation as its board chairman.

According to Yonhap, preparations for the foundation have been ongoing since January this year. They included advisory meetings and expert interviews. As a result, about 50 experts across various fields made appearances at the launch event to endorse its public interest projects, fundraising and public relations matters.

“Artists can not only create art but also live a life that brings happiness and peace to the world,” G-Dragon said. “Beyond giving love and peace to the world through music, I’ve always thought that we could help more people by actually engaging in social service or creating public foundations to show positive influence.”

The JusPeace Foundation’s focus lies in its intention to contribute to the development of copyright culture and to society through various artistic talent. This will include public use of copyrights, supporting those with artistic talent and creators engaged in public activities. The foundation will also provide people who suffer from drug abuse opportunities to try out music therapy as an alternative rehabilitation practise.

G-Dragon’s intention to establish an anti-drug foundation was first announced as early as December 2023, when he was undergoing police investigation after being accused of drug use at the time.
