Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet has said that she was told to hide her “belly rolls” during the filming of her upcoming film Lee.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the Titanic star said that a crew member on the film’s set made the comment during a scene in which she wears a bathing suit.

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini,” she said. “And one of the crew came up between takes and said, ‘You might want to sit up straighter’. So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?”

In the biographical film, Winslet plays the legendary World War II photographer Lee Miller. Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg and Alexander Skarsgard co-star, with the film set to hit cinemas in September.

Winslet also responded to a question about looking “less than perfect” on screen. “The opposite,” she said. “I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”

“I think people know better than to say, ‘You might wanna do something about those wrinkles’. I’m more comfortable in myself as each year passes. It enables me to allow the opinions of others to evaporate.”

In other Winslet news, she recently recalled the “messy” experience of kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic, admitting it “was not all it’s cracked up to be”.

“We kept doing this kiss, and I’ve got a lot of pale makeup on and I would have to do our makeup checks — on both of us, between takes — and I would end up looking as though I’d been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take because his makeup would come off on me,” she said.

The film’s director James Cameron also recently dismissed rumours of a rift between himself and Winslet.

The actor’s show Mare Of Easttown, meanwhile, may be getting a second season soon, with executives recently revealing they might “start thinking of building something”.
