After pulling out of a recent KoRn show, Denzel Curry has promised fans he will “make it up” to them at Reading & Leeds.
The alt-rap star was set to perform as the support for nu-metal legends KoRn last night (August 11), as they headed to Gunnersbury Park for what was their biggest UK show to date.
Curry was set to take to the stage after earlier performances from Loathe, Wargasm and Spiritbox, though announced at the last minute that he had been forced to pull out of the event as he had lost his voice.
According to an update, he debated whether or not to power through with the set in West London, but ultimately decided against it as he didn’t want to “risk further injury” or deliver a lacklustre performance. He also ensured that those disappointed would be accounted for, as he plans to bring the energy at the 2024 edition of Reading & Leeds.
“To all my fans in London I apologise but I won’t be able to perform tonight due to losing my voice,” he began his statement on Instagram stories.
“I think everyone knows how crazy I go when performing but the back-to-back shows have taken a toll on me, I don’t want to risk further injury to it or give a half-ass show… I’ll make it up to you at Reading & Leeds… that much I do promise. Big Ultra”
The show last night was the final of a trio of huge summer 2024 UK shows that KoRn had announced back in January – following on from slots in Scarborough and Halifax. It also marked their first show in the capital in seven years.
Huge hits like ‘Got The Life’, ‘Y’All Want A Single’, ‘Blind’ and ‘Falling Away From Me’ appeared on the 16-song setlist, before they wrapped up the night with their biggest track ‘Freak On A Leash’.
Both ‘Coming Undone’ and ‘Shoots And Ladders’ were also played live, and adapted for the live show, with the band integrating brief renditions of both Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ in the former and Metallica’s ‘One’ in the latter. Check out footage of the show and the setlist below.
Also performing at the Gunnersbury Park series this year are Tom Grennan, Peggy Gou, FISHER and PJ Harvey.
As for Curry, the upcoming sets at Reading & Leeds were announced back in February, when he was named among 50 new names added to line-up. Others included Fontaines D.C., Reneé Rapp, Pendulum, Kenny Beats, Beabadoobee, Kenya Grace, Nia Archives, Two Door Cinema Club, Neck Deep, The Wombats, Ashnikko, Rachel Cinouriri and The Last Dinner Party.
The news followed on from the reveal of the 2024 headliners, which includes Liam Gallagher, Lana Del Rey, Blink-182, Fred Again.., Gerry Cinnamon and Catfish & The Bottlemen.
21 Savage, Jorja Smith (in a UK festival exclusive) and The Prodigy, were also previously announced as additions to the bill back in November. The 2024 edition will run between August 21 – 25, and tickets are on sale now for both locations. Visit here (for Reading) and here (for Leeds).
In other Denzel Curry news, last month the singer released a new single called ‘HOODLUMZ’ featuring A$AP Rocky. It came ahead of his latest album ‘King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2’, which arrived on July 19.
