Jimmy Eat World have announced a ‘Futures’ one-off show in celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary along with special live vinyl LPs.

The band took to their official X/Twitter account to share a black-and-white video that sees frontman, Jim Adkins, step into a telephone booth and pick up a ringing phone before the frame changes to clips of the band performing their song ‘Futures’ in what appears to be a live studio.

The words “Jimmy Eat World, Celebrating 20 years of ‘Futures’ October 17 at The Van Buren, Phoenix” then appear on the screen as the band continue playing the track. “It’s unbelievable to us that our album Futures is almost 20 years old! Making Futures was one of the most difficult yet rewarding accomplishments in our time as a band,” began the caption of the band’s post.

They continued: “We are honored that many you have found something in those songs that you’ve connected with over the years. As a way to show our appreciation we want to play this album front to back for our hometown fans at The Van Buren in Phoenix, AZ on October 17. The Van Buren is a special venue and we are chomping at the bit to play there for the first time ever. We hope to see you there!”

A ticket pre-sale for the band’s one-off show on October 17 at the Van Buren in Phoenix, AZ will commence tomorrow, Wednesday (August 14) at 10am PT (1pm EST, 6pm BST) for fans who use the code FUTURES20. A general ticket sale will begin on Friday (August 16) at 10am PT (1pm EST, 6pm BST). Visit here to purchase tickets.

Released on October 14, 2004, ‘Futures’ marked the band’s fifth studio LP following their breakthrough,platinum-certified 2001 album ‘Bleed American’. ‘Futures’ charted at Number Six on the US Billboard 200 after selling 98,000 copies in its first week. It would go on to sell over 615,000 copies, and was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Speaking about the creation of the LP in a statement, the band shared that it was their “darkest album and was the hardest for us to make. ‘Futures’ was the first record we made where we didn’t feel like we were making it anonymously.”

They continued: “We pushed through and ended up with an album we are super proud of to this day. Being able to reimagine it as a live recording so many years later for the Phoenix Sessions was an amazing experience, and we hope you enjoy reliving it again as much as we did.”

Along with their one-off show, Jimmy Eat World will also be releasing a limited-edition run of their live LPs ‘Futures: Phoenix Sessions’ (Chapter V) and ‘Surviving: Phoenix Sessions’ (Chapter X) on vinyl for the first time. You can pre-order them here.

Both limited-edition releases were recorded live as part of their 2021 Phoenix Sessions, a partnership with Danny Wimmer Presents on a unique global streaming performance series filmed at the Icehouse in Phoenix, AZ.

The ‘Futures: Phoenix Sessions’ 2-LP set will be on hand-poured blizzard-colored vinyl and will include a gatefold package with exclusive photos by Steve Thrasher, notes from the band, and an exclusive 20th-anniversary etching on side D.

‌The ‘Surviving: Phoenix Sessions’ LP will be pressed on Fade to Black coloured vinyl, and will feature an insert with behind-the-scenes photos by Steve Thrasher.
