NME’s latest star of The Cover, Nieve Ella, has shared an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Shropshire indie-pop star is on this week’s (August 26) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Nieve Ella here, written by Laura Molloy and featuring photography by Rachel Billings.

Accompanying the story is ‘What She Needs’, an exclusive playlist that the singer-songwriter has compiled, featuring Gracie Abrams, Chappell Roan, Rachel Chinouriri, Lizzy McAlpine, Devon Again, and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

Nieve Ella’s upcoming EP ‘Watch It Ache And Bleed’ documents a period of transition in the 21-year-old’s life, which has seen her grapple with the swift acceleration of her career and the dissolution of the love that fuelled the record’s predecessor, ‘Lifetime of Wanting’. “A lot of the songs are me realising that my feelings matter and I have a voice,” she told NME of the new EP. “It’s me right now as just Nieve the person, not Nieve Ella the artist.

Elsewhere in her Cover story, the singer-songwriter reflects on the misogyny she’s experienced in the music industry, the empowering feeling of inspiring young girls to pick up a guitar, and the impact of Sam Fender on her music.
