BTS rapper Suga has released a second formal apology following his DUI incident earlier this month, when he was booked by police for driving electric scooter while intoxicated.
The K-pop idol was first booked by South Korean police earlier this month for violating the Road Traffic Act. Following his charge, BTS’ label Big Hit Music and Suga both issued official statements and apologies to fans regarding the incident. According to the statement from his company, Suga’s license was revoked and was fined. “Nobody was hurt, and no property damage occurred due to the incident, and he was taken home under police custody,” it read.
On August 25, Suga issued a hand-written apology on the fan community platform Weverse, two days after he was questioned by police at Seoul’s Yongsan Police Station. “It is with feelings of shame that I apologise once again to you all. I apologise very deeply for having disappointed and hurt my fans and everyone who loves me through my wrongdoings,” he wrote as translated by Soompi.
“I forgot my responsibility to repay the love I’ve received up until now by behaving in a manner fitting of that love, and I made a grave mistake,” he added. “Due to my carelessness, everyone who cares about me is going through a difficult time. I will live my life reflecting and making efforts not to commit such wrongdoings again.”
BTS’ Suga also wrote about how he felt as though he has left a “large blemish on the precious memories I made together with my members and our fans, and I have tarnished BTS’ name”. He added that he felt “painfully sorry” for having caused damaged to the BTS members, who he claimed “are suffering” because of his actions.
“I will accept not only the disciplinary measures that will be decided [by the authorities] in the future, but also any criticism or rebuke. Finally, I once again bow my head and sincerely apologise for causing a controversy and disappointing many people,” Suga concluded.
His appearance at Yongsan Police Station last week was the first time he was called in for questioning about the case since the incident occurred. Investigations are currently still undergoing.
