Biffy Clyro returned to the stage last week, playing a live show together for the first time in two years.

The Scottish rockers – comprised of Simon Neil and twins Ben and James Johnston – took over the TK Maxx Presents Live at The Piece Hall in Halifax on Friday (August 23) and performed a whopping 22-track set. Witch Fever served as opening support for the band on the night.

Biffy kicked off with ‘The Captain’ followed by ‘That Golden Rule’, ‘Who’s Got a Match?’ and ‘Re-Arrange’. They then jumped into their 2009 song ‘Born On A Horse’ which marked the first time the band played that track live since 2019.

Elsewhere in their set, they took on ‘9/15ths’, ‘Animal Style’, ‘Black Chandelier’, ‘Instant History’ and ‘End Of’. They also performed ‘Saturday Superhouse’ for the first time since 2018.

To close out the night, the rockers performed a four-song encore comprised of ‘Machines’, ‘Wolves Of Winter’, ‘Bubbles’ and ‘Many Of Horror’.

The band’s last full-length release was 2021’s ‘The Myth of the Happily Ever After‘ and in a four-star review of the album, NME shared: “What could have been a hodgepodge of would-be B-sides and ideas found down the back of the sofa has turned out rather differently. Yes, ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’ outshine its predecessor, but it could also – ironically – be the most cohesive Biffy album to date.”

The 2021 release followed on from Biffy Clyro’s 2020 LP ‘A Celebration Of Endings‘ which NME also gave a four-star review and described as “a record of extremes. At one end there’s the Bring Me The Horizon-style, trance-driven apocalypse bop ‘Instant History’; at the other there’s aforementioned metal-meets-Mozart belter ‘Cop Syrup’. It’s truly a statement for these dumpster fire times, but even if you put aside the lofty notions of rebirth, you’ll be left with an album that’s just really fucking fun. Let this album into your life and enjoy a blast of optimism. Maybe – just maybe – things are gonna be alright.”

Biffy Clyro are set to embark on a special tour across London and Glasgow in which has been dubbed as ‘A Celebration Of Beginnings’ and will feature performances of their first three albums in full. Check out the full list of dates below and visit here to purchase tickets.
