Taylor Swift and Charli XCX

Taylor Swift has hailed Charli XCX despite recent fan theories that the latter dissed her on two recent tracks.

Earlier this month, XCX and Billie Eilish joined forces on a new remix of ‘Brat’ deluxe edition track ‘Guess’, with Swift fans suspecting that one of the lines towards the end was a subtle jab at the fellow pop icon, seemingly because she blocked her from the Number One spot on the UK album charts.

In June, XCX was also accused of dissing Swift on the track ‘Sympathy Is A Knife’, which contained a line saying: “Don’t want to see you backstage at my boyfriend’s show”. This was seen by some fans as being about the singer as XCX is engaged to the 1975’s George Daniel, and Swift had a brief romance with the band’s frontman Matty Healy.

Despite that, speaking to Vulture as part of a profile of XCX, Swift said: “I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011. Her writing is surreal and inventive, always.

“She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off.”

In the same interview, XCX was also asked about the apparent references to Swift in ‘Sympathy Is A Knife’, denying there was any feud between them.

“People are gonna think what they want to think,” she added. “That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt.”

Elsewhere in the interview, XCX revealed that she has been working in the studio alongside the likes of Bon Iver and Danielle Haim.

She also said that a “full-length other project,” is in the works, however, she didn’t confirm if it would be a remix album.
