Actor Jason Schwartzman has recalled the “spooky” encounter he had with Oasis’ Noel Gallagher.
The Rushmore actor recalled the surprise encounter he had with Gallagher in a new interview with The Guardian and described as “the spookiest thing that’s happened” to him.
He explained that he was in a cab in the early ’00s talking to a driver about Britpop before the encounter happened.
He recalled: “I was in England in 2004, 2005, in this cab, asking all these Britpop questions to the driver…I’m such a Britpop geek; I love it.”
He remembered the cab driver saying to him: “‘’You know that was the ’90s. It’s not really like that any more.’ “I said: ‘I guess I’m sort of living in the past.’ He said: ‘It’s not like you’re going to see Noel Gallagher getting into the back of a car with a guitar.'”
Next, moments later, that’s exactly what happened to Schwartzman. He continued: “As I got out in that street with all the guitar shops [Denmark Street], Noel Gallagher was across the street with a guitar case in his hand, getting into the back of the car,” Schwartzman explained. “I felt like I was in a scene from a movie.”
Schwartzman revealed that he was a huge Britpop fan as a teenager and in the same interview, he also discussed his love for recent Oasis documentary, Supersonic.
“I saw them live a few times,” he said of Oasis. “The first was at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas festival in 1995 when Oasis were touring Morning Glory on the same bill as Radiohead doing ‘The Bends’. I saw them when Travis opened for them on the ‘Standing on the Shoulder of Giants’ tour. I was the kid driving around all the record stores buying all the Blur and Oasis singles just so I could hear the B-sides like ‘Rockin’ Chair.'”
After designing the new font on the team’s home kit for the 2024/25 season earlier this summer, the club have now shared a video featuring Gallagher in a ‘Definitely City’ range.
Due for release on September 12, the range includes polo shirts, a zip up top and a sky blue shirt, which you can view below. In the short clip, Gallagher says: “I loved City before I loved anything. I was into City before I was into music. I was into City before I knew what music was.”
He also appeared to confirm reports that it will include a design of the third team kit inspired by Oasis’ debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last Friday (August 30).
Meanwhile, tickets for Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour sold out over the weekend.
The whole process, however, was far from smooth, with millions flocking to try and grab tickets and many – including Louis Tomlinson – being left disappointed after a series of issues arose. For instance, Ticketmaster crashed shortly before tickets were due to go live and a giant queue to contend with, social media users were left wondering if they’d even get their tickets in the first place.
Many fans complained about being kicked out of the queue after being mistaken for bots, while those attempting to purchase accessible tickets reported being unable to get through to the phone lines, despite some fans calling the designated number over 400 times.
Some who did eventually manage to get through the queue were then disappointed to see the cost of remaining tickets had increased due to Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing policy.
Earlier today (September 2), Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy called for a review into “dynamic pricing” and secondary ticket sites following the scramble for Oasis tickets at the weekend.
