Demi Moore has said Channing Tatum’s forthcoming Ghost reboot should not have been made.
The actress originally starred in the 1990 Oscar winning film alongside Patrick Swayze.
When asked about the forthcoming sequel in an interview with Variety, Moore said: “There are some films better left alone. But it depends on what the take is. […] Channing is incredibly intelligent and talented – who knows what he would bring to it if it happened.”
She also pointed out why the original was so successful, adding: “The success of Ghost is really about alchemy. Think about Whoopi [Goldberg], who anchored the comedy in a magical way. Or Tony Goldwyn, the boy next door who is the most unsuspecting villain. And the sweetness and virility of Patrick Swayze.”
When asked whether she would reprise her role as Molly Jensen in the reboot, Moore said she would “have to see what they come up with”.
Tatum confirmed that he was working on a reboot last year. “We have the rights to Ghost. But we’re going to do something different,” he said at the time, suggesting that the original film included problematic themes that might need rethinking. “I think it needs to change a little bit.”
Elsewhere he recently admitted he once bought new t-shirts for an entire year just to avoid doing laundry.
The actor is currently starring in Zoë Kravitz’s new film Blink Twice which arrived in cinemas on August 23.
In a four-star review of the film, NME wrote: “Hitting boiling point at just the right moment, it’s also sharply written, with whip-smart dialogue (“that’s going to open up beautifully” is one line that gets repeated with a superb pay-off) throughout. And as you might expect given her father Lenny’s musical acumen, Kravitz gives all the action a brilliant soundtrack with the music of James Brown and especially Chaka Khan’s ‘Ain’t Nobody’ used perfectly.”
