Pokemon TCG Pocket Reroll: Three Genetic Apex packs can be seen

A popular Pokémon TCG Pocket fan-theory about how to get rare pulls from booster packs has seemingly been debunked.

Ever since the first Pokémon games were released onto the Game Boy in 1996, fans have been sharing tips and tricks about how to get the best ‘mon for their collections. A secret way to catch Mew in Red & Blue was passed around playgrounds around the world even if it didn’t actually work, while the game-breaking MissingNo hack gave players unlimited Rare Candy and a glitchy new Pokémon.

And now rumours about Pokémon TCG Pocket are doing the rounds online.

According to one popular fan-theory, you can tell which booster packs have rare cards by looking closely at the condition of the wrapping. When it comes to opening a booster, players are given the choice of several identical-looking packets, but those with slight wrinkles or creases are rumoured to contain the rarer Pokémon cards.

However using the Wonder Pick feature, which allows you to pick a card from a friend’s already-opened booster, one fan discovered that the contents of the packets are decided the moment you click “open a pack” and the carousel of different choices is simply an illusion.

“My buddy clicked on a Pikachu pack and was rotating through the carousel. As he was doing this I went to the Wonder Pick and it showed exactly the cards he ended up pulling in his pack before he pulled them. Just wanted to let the community know,” wrote Vurzey1.

“Well that’s freeing,” replied one fan. “That explains why my feelings and luck does not work,” said another. “As immersion breaking as it is, I wouldn’t be surprised if Wonder Pick is predetermined too and the card you click on doesn’t matter,” wrote a third.

“I’m still gonna spin the carousel like a wheel and pick whatever it lands on,” said another player.

Pokémon TCG Pocket launched last week and has already been downloaded over 10million times, with the free-to-play game also earning developers £17.8million in revenue. The game has also released two limited-time events (Chansey Wonder Pick and Lapras Battle) with trading set to come to the game “soon”.
