Activision has issued a cease & desist letter against a hugely popular Call Of Duty mod.
H2M was due for release today (August 16) and would have given Modern Warfare Remastered players an expanded multiplayer playground to explore.
Based on the original Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s beloved multiplayer mode, the new mod would have brought over 50 maps and a new progression system to the 2017 game. A number of Modern Warfare 2 killstreaks and weapon attachments would also have been made available in Modern Warfare Remastered.
The mod was so popular, it had caused sales of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered to increase dramatically, with the game re-entering the top ten of Steam’s best-selling titles earlier this week.
However hours after releasing a new trailer, the team behind H2M shared a statement on social media.
“Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project. We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently,” they wrote, and updated their X bio to read “SHUTDOWN”.

Activision have been criticised for the timing of the cease & desist letter. Not only was it filed shortly before the mod was released, but it came after a sale on Modern Warfare Remastered ended, with many players buying the game in anticipation of the mod.

“Sending a letter right after the sale and right before release might be the pettiest thing I’ve ever seen,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “I can’t even describe how I feel right now. Like something really dear to me just got ripped away. This was a dream come true,” said another while other fans are requesting a refund for Modern Warfare Remastered through Steam and are threatening to boycott the upcoming Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6.
The newest Call Of Duty title is due for release October 25 while fans can get a first look at its campaign mode next week, via Gamescom.
In other news, it’s been reported that Fallout: London, a player-made full conversion mod for Fallout 4, has become the fastest downloaded title ever on GOG.
