Adele poses with the Best Pop Solo Performance Award for "Easy on Me" in the press room during the 65th GRAMMY Awards

Adele has revealed that she has no intention of making new material anytime soon, and plans to take a break after her upcoming shows.

The pop star made the comments during a new interview with German outlet ZDF, confirming that she has no plans to work on new music and wants to take some time out from the industry.

“I don’t have any plans for new music, at all,” she revealed in the discussion. “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”

The hiatus from making new music will seemingly come after the ‘Rolling In The Deep’ singer completes her residency shows in Germany, which are scheduled for later this summer. These include numerous shows at the purpose built Munich Messe arena from August 2-24.

They will mark her first mainland gigs on the continent since 2016, and will arrive following the completion of her recently extended ‘Weekends With Adele’ residency in Las Vegas. The 80,000-capacity open-air venue Munich Messe arena has been created specifically for these shows.

Her comments during the recent interview also align with those which she shared earlier this year, when she confirmed that, although she plans to embark on a world tour on her next album cycle, it’ll a while to wait before she releases the follow-up to 2021’s ’30’.

She has frequently taken long breaks between each of her records, with there being a four-year wait between her sophomore album ‘21’ and third album ‘25’, and a six-year gap between the latter and her most recent LP ‘30’, which was shared in 2021.

The interview comes as the singer is gearing up for the Munich shows, and recently shared a series of photos on Instagram showing her wandering around the purpose-built site. “It’s all a bit bloody exciting,” she wrote in the caption.

However, during the discussion, the ‘Hello’ singer also revealed that part of the reason why she is seeking a break from writing music is because of her struggle with fame, and desire to take herself out of the limelight.

“I miss everything about before I was famous, I think probably being anonymous the most,” she said. “I don’t like being famous. I love that I get to make music all the time whenever I want and people are receptive to it and like it, because that’s pretty unimaginable… that never happens to people.

“But, the fame side of it, I absolutely hate and I miss everything about before all of this had happened. The fact that people are even interested in my voice and my songs is pretty wild, I don’t think it ever gets normal, you know? So it’s worth it… [it’s just finding] the balance.”

In other Adele news, last week she and Ed Sheeran were spotted cheering on the England men’s football team during their semi-final clash with the Netherlands at the Euros.

England beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals – which secured them a place in the final for the second time in a row. They would later lose to Spain in the final over the weekend, with the final score being 2-1. It was the first time the men’s team reached a final on foreign soil.
