Speaking to NME for a Big Read cover feature in July, Parks said she had been âdoing a lot off writingâ for the record and âjust thinking about exactly what I want to say as this first big cohesive statement of intentâ.
âI was quite intimidated by the idea of it, because I love the album format,â she said. âIâve been focusing a lot more on the idea of nostalgia, just reading old journals and being very reflective.â
She added: âIâm trying to make it the best body of work that it can be. The album format is really important to me, and in terms of the music that Iâve put out thus far, I feel like I have a sonic identity, but thereâs variation in what I put out so far, so I do have scope to experiment and explore different styles within my debut album, which feels exciting. Iâm excited for what it could be.â
Parksâ latest release âHurtâ arrived in August, which she said was âsupposed to uplift and comfort those going through hard timesâ.
Meanwhile, the musician will appear on a Channel 4 special The Whole Truth tonight (October 9), on which she will perform âHurtâ and discuss mental health. In a preview clip, Parks talked about how self-care has helped her navigate âextremely low periodsâ in her life.
âI think itâs important, and I feel like for everyone, itâs separate,â she said. âSelf-care is like a million different things. It doesnât have to be, like, yoga. It can be gaming.â
