Speaking to NME for a Big Read cover feature in July, Parks said she had been ādoing a lot off writingā for the record and ājust thinking about exactly what I want to say as this first big cohesive statement of intentā.
āI was quite intimidated by the idea of it, because I love the album format,ā she said. āIāve been focusing a lot more on the idea of nostalgia, just reading old journals and being very reflective.ā
She added: āIām trying to make it the best body of work that it can be. The album format is really important to me, and in terms of the music that Iāve put out thus far, I feel like I have a sonic identity, but thereās variation in what I put out so far, so I do have scope to experiment and explore different styles within my debut album, which feels exciting. Iām excited for what it could be.ā
Parksā latest release āHurtā arrived in August, which she said was āsupposed to uplift and comfort those going through hard timesā.
Meanwhile, the musician will appear on a Channel 4 special The Whole Truth tonight (October 9), on which she will perform āHurtā and discuss mental health. In a preview clip, Parks talked about how self-care has helped her navigate āextremely low periodsā in her life.
āI think itās important, and I feel like for everyone, itās separate,ā she said. āSelf-care is like a million different things. It doesnāt have to be, like, yoga. It can be gaming.ā
