Avenged Sevenfold have announced details of a 25th anniversary show, which will see them perform tracks from early albums ‘Waking The Fallen’ and ‘City Of Evil’.

Announced on their social media pages last night (August 12), the upcoming show will see the Huntington Beach metal band head over to Santa Ana later this year to perform at the 1,200-capacity Observatory.
Taking place on October 25, the one-off show offers fans a chance to see the band in a significantly more intimate setting than usual – as compared to their recent run of mammoth shows across Europe and headline slot at Download Festival.
It will also see A7X break out a unique setlist, as the members have confirmed that the gig will centre on two albums from their earlier discography: 2003’s ‘Waking The Fallen’ and its 2005 follow-up ‘City Of Evil’.
They’ll be joined by Orange County band Death by Stereo – who are also celebrating their 25th anniversary – and tickets are priced at just $25 (£19). That being said, tickets are offered exclusively to members of their Deathbats Club, for which an NFT purchase is required.

“$25 for 25 years,” the update reads. “Deathbats Club presents Death By Stereo with special guests Avenged Sevenfold (playing cuts from their two new albums Waking The Fallen and City Of Evil).”

As for the albums highlighted at the forthcoming Observatory show, ‘Waking The Fallen’ marked the band’s second studio LP, and helped put the band on the map with their early metalcore sound. It featured hits including ‘Unholy Confessions’ and ‘Second Heartbeat’.
‘City Of Evil’ was shared two years later, and is credited with helping launch M. Shadows and co into mainstream success with its more traditional heavy metal sound. It remains a favourite among fans, and contains huge tracks like ‘Seize The Day’, ‘Beast And The Harlot’ and ‘Bat Country’.
Not only does the Santa Ana gig mark a chance to see the band in a more intimate setting than usual, it also comes as one of the few times that fans can catch Avenged live for the rest of the year. At time of writing their only other remaining shows for 2024 are at Rocklahoma (August 30) and Rock in Rio (September 15).
The announcement of the gig comes after Zacky Vengeance hinted to us that Avenged would be celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘City Of Evil’ in some capacity next year.
“I think those albums are really monumental and fans have grown with them. They’ve meant a certain thing to people at a certain place in their life, so I think it’s important that we do something,” he told NME ahead of the band’s third time headlining Download Festival in June.
“I never want to be a nostalgia act,” he added. “I’ve always wanted to be as proud of whatever we put out today as I was when we put out those albums, but I’m totally cool with celebrating those albums because it was such a great place and time. Plus it’s actually fun to relive and play those songs and get those reactions. To bank our entire career off past successes, we can’t do it, but we’ll definitely do something to celebrate those albums though. For us, the most exciting thing about looking back is recalling where our heads were at when we were young and writing them. Remembering that they’re part of who we are.”
Avenged shared their eighth and latest album, ‘Life Is But A Dream…’ last year, and the LP marked the long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s ‘The Stage’.
