Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd has reportedly received a seven figure deal to make new shows with Netflix.
According to The Sun, Gadd has been offered almost £1million to work exclusively with the streaming giant.
Baby Reindeer was a viewing smash following its arrival on Netflix earlier this year and topped global Netflix charts back in April.
It spent a month atop the platform’s viewership rankings and was named Netflix’s 10th most-watched series of all time.
The series tells the story of a struggling comedian named Donny Dunn (based on Gadd) who is relentlessly stalked by an older woman named Martha.
The show gained even more attention when a woman named Fiona Harvey, who claimed to be the real person behind Martha’s character, came forward and directly threatened legal action against both Gadd and Netflix.
The attention from Baby Reindeer has prompted many fans to question what Gadd will do next.
A source has now reportedly told The Sun: “This is not a done deal, with both the streamer and Richard negotiating the details of a contract which would see him start work on a new show as soon as possible.”
“The fact that it could end up being worth seven figures reflects just how much Netflix want to keep him ‘in house’ following the incredible response to Baby Reindeer.
“They are hoping they can come to an agreement that will see Richard produce a string of shows for them, which could prove just as successful and thought-provoking.”
NME has reached out to representatives of Gadd for comment.
Meanwhile, viewers can catch Gadd’s latest project online now.
As reported by Variety, new short film Truth Serum has been picked up by short film streaming service Omeleto and is available to watch now.
Directed by Vika Evdokimenko, it is a comedy that follows a group of dinner party guests including Gadd’s character, who ingests the mysterious drug of the title.
“When ugly truths start to emerge, chaos reigns and threatens the relationships of old friends,” reads the official synopsis.
Gadd is also currently filming the drama Lions, a six-part series about two men over the course of a number of decades, which will be broadcast on the BBC.
