Finneas has said that he had one of the “longest, biggest” arguments with Billie Eilish when they were making ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’.
Eilish’s brother made the confession during an episode of Hot Ones Versus with his sister where they were challenged to ask each other a series of embarrassing or personal questions and either tell the truth or eat a wing.
When asked by Eilish what their biggest argument during the production of the record was, Finneas initially said: “I put my feet up on the desk a lot and Billie is right there.”
Eilish added: “Finneas is always, well, not always, a lot of the time, he is a lot of times barefoot or a lot of the times in very filthy shoes. He’ll put them…this is the situation…I’ll be right next to them. And my face is right there.
“And we filmed so much of the making of the album that almost all of the footage is just his feet. The camera is right there and it’s just his feet!”
But then Finneas noted a more serious argument when Eilish was trying to compose new material for the album.
He continued: “I think the longest, biggest argument was during a period of transition in both of our lives when we were both just trying to be honest. To give you credit, I was very high and mighty and telling you you weren’t being honest enough or authentic enough.
“And you were coming up with such beautiful melodies and cool cadences. Then, by the time we had cool lyrics, everything else was done. So I learned a lot from being too ego-centric.”
Despite that, Eilish recently said that she feels her third album is “the most genuine thing” she’s ever made.
She said at the time: “It feels very, very me and it feels like all of the music is exactly who I am. All the visuals are exactly who I am, and that’s honestly terrifying. That’s why I’m literally shaking right now!”
In a four-star review of the LP for NME, Thomas Smith wrote: “‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ remains distinctly unique, a portrait of a singular talent entering young adulthood, exploring her queerness and experiencing the emotional thrill and (sometimes) catastrophe of chasing passion or falling in love. In trying to write an album for herself, she’s made one that will resonate harder than anything she’s done before.”
Meanwhile, Eilish recently became the third artist to reach 100million monthly Spotify listeners, and the youngest yet to reach the milestone.
The singer finished behind Taylor Swift – who has 102million monthly Spotify listeners – and The Weeknd – who tops the list with 107million monthly listeners on the music streaming platform.
Elsewhere, Eilish’s ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ world tour is scheduled to begin this autumn. The UK and Ireland leg will take place in July 2025, and includes six nights at The O2 in London. Find any remaining tickets here (UK/Ireland) and here (North America).
