Billie Eilish has revealed she has 16 new songs in the works with brother and producer Finneas.
In the fourth edition of her annual retrospective interview with Vanity Fair, Eilish, now 18, opened up about identity, using her platform for good, the tumultuous year thatâs been 2020, and how sheâs been filling the time â working on new music.
âRight now I have 16,â the singer responded when asked how many songs she was currently working on. âWeâve been working. And I love them all.â
Eilish also discussed feeling more confident in her songwriting abilities, advocating for herself and communicating her ideas.
âI think Finneas and I have just seriously really gotten in the groove. We do it so fast,â she explained.
âThere was a period of time, a month ago or something, we were just texting the label like, âSong done, another song done, another song done.â So, Iâm so much better at it. I love it so much more. I actually really do enjoy it now and I do feel like Iâm pretty good at it now.â

Elsewhere in the interview, Eilish discussed her favourite artists at the moment â Arlo Parks, Ashnikko, and The Strokesâ latest album âThe New Abnormalâ.
Echoing comments she made in a recent interview with Zane Lowe, the singer also touched on a period of identity crisis and feeling like a âparody of [herself]â.
âItâs just like, you forget, Iâm literally 18. Itâs funny that Iâm expected to have found myself and stick with it. Itâs like, I donât know, Iâm trying different things out, Iâm trying different ways of living and styles and personalities, hairstyles and clothing and shoes, Iâm just trying it all out, because Iâm a growing fucking girl.â
Last month, Eilish shared new single âTherefore I Amâ, performing it live for the first time at this yearâs AMAs.
In a five-star review, NME praised Eilishâs continued sonic experimentation, and called her introspective lyricism a âfascinating thread in her musicâ.
âSheâs not alone in this approach, but few do it quite as candidly â her level self-awareness continues to lead to some truly addictive songwriting.â
Earlier this month, Eilish was also nominated for a handful of Grammy Awards for her track ‘Everything I Wanted’, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
