'Borderlands 4'

Gearbox Software has confirmed when Borderlands 4 will be released via a teaser trailer – check it out below.

Last night (August 20) Gearbox and 2K Games used Gamescom Opening Night Live to officially reveal Borderlands 4, five years after Borderlands 3 first launched. Two spin-offs have been released since, New Tales From The Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, but Borderlands 4 is the next mainline entry in the franchise.

According to the official description of the game, “In this next instalment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.”

Borderlands 4 is due to release at some point in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, however a more specific launch date has yet to be announced.

Last month, Gearbox boss Randy Pickford teased the Borderlands 4 announcement. “I’m confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with the next video game project,” he said.

“I have the biggest and best team that I’ve ever had working on what we know is exactly what our fans want from us – so I’m very, very thrilled. I can’t wait to talk about it! I wish I could just gush right now because we’ve got so much to say,” he added.

This news comes after the Borderlands movie flopped in cinemas, with one fan on Reddit saying the new teaser trailer was better than the Cate Blanchett-led film.

Borderlands was released August 9 and, alongside a lowly 10 per cent review score on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, has so far accrued just $18.6million (£14.3million) at the global box office against a budget of over $120million.

It will now be released onto digital platforms on August 30, just three weeks after its theatrical release, in an attempt to recoup some of those losses.

In other news, Roblox users can finally have a ‘Brat’ summer, with a new Charli XCX-inspired update launching over the weekend.
