Burna Boy has surprised fans by announcing that he will be releasing his eighth studio album tomorrow (July 30).

Last Friday (July 26), the Nigerian Afropop juggernaut celebrated the fifth anniversary of his breakthrough fourth album, 2019’s ‘African Giant’. Now, days later (July 29), he has taken to his X/Twitter account to share the news that he is ready to release his eighth full-length offering.

This morning, in a short message, Burna – real name Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu – simply wrote: “Album dropping 12am”.

This sent fans into a frenzy. One immediately replied to the tweet and thanked Ogulu, telling him to “come and clean our ears”. Another said, “Finally some good music after all the trash we’ve been forced to listen to all this while.” Check out more fan reactions below.

Some fans wondered, however, if the announcement was a ploy to distract them from the recent news surrounding the ‘Twice As Tall’ star. An X/Twitter user wrote: “Lmao, you dey try coverup the OF girl and the fall? [laughing emojis] See PR tactics [finger point emoji] [laughing emoji].”

Recorded during the ‘African Giant’ celebratory gig at London’s KOKO, a video has surfaced of Burna falling off a production case while attempting to get to his fans from the floor.

Also, OnlyFans model Symbaerothicks accused the Nigerian star of unpaid debt from a business transaction. Burna Boy has not replied to the public figure’s claims.

There is currently no name or tracklist for Ogulu’s forthcoming record. It will serve as the follow-up to ‘I Told Them‘ – which he released Last August. It was awarded three stars by NME, writing: “Whichever mood he’s in, Burna Boy creates pure magic here. A genius, indeed.”

Since then, Burna Boy has become the first male African artist to perform on the illustrious Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival this year. He also joined Coldplay during their headline set to perform their unreleased collaboration with Little Simz, currently dubbed ‘We Pray’. The song is expected to feature on Coldplay’s upcoming 10th album ‘Moon Music’, out this October.
