Activision has confirmed 65,000 accounts have been banned from Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone for cheating.

Last week, Activision confirmed it was having issues with its anti-cheat software RICOCHET following a rise in cheats after Modern Warfare 3 was made available via subscription service Xbox Game Pass. “We remain committed to combating cheaters, shutting down cheat vendors, and providing our players a fair and fun experience,” the studio added, confirming a fix.

Activision has now announced that 65,000 accounts have been banned in a single week across Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone “for cheating and boosting”.

“The RICOCHET Anti-Cheat team has now purged the Ranked Play leaderboards in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3,” continued the post on social media. “Team RICOCHET has accelerated cheat vendor enforcements resulting in over 65,000 account bans across Ranked Play and non-Ranked modes. The team will continue to monitor and issue enforcements to anyone cheating or boosting in all game modes.”

“This is fantastic news maybe us casual players can enjoy the game now instead of having it watch our backs 24/7. I hope they continue banning more and more cheaters because the problem is getting to be too much,” wrote one fan on reddit.

However, several players have pointed out that considering the popularity of the two Call Of Duty titles, 65,000 bans really isn’t that many. “I just feel like there are so many more…” wrote one fan.

Others are worried that cheats can just dive straight back into Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by using free trials for Game Pass, while Warzone remains free-to-play. Some other players claim they’ve been banned unfairly. “My account got banned. I’m no cheater. I guarantee other innocent players were banned too. Maybe even the majority. Their anti cheat is the worst I’ve ever seen,” claimed one player.

Either way, the rise of cheats is an issue Activision will be hoping to solve before the launch of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, which is due for release in October and will be available via Xbox Game Pass the same day.

In other news, Larian Studios has claimed that because Baldur’s Gate 3 was so vast, developers are struggling to come up with new ideas.
