Calvin Harris and Miley Cyrus

A new rumoured collaboration that was meant to happen between Calvin Harris and Miley Cyrus appears to have been scrapped.

Back in May, the Scottish DJ took to social media to share a video of a tranquil beach with the words “summer soon”. Harris further captioned the video: “not long now.”

In the snippet, a female vocalist can be heard singing over a fingerpicked guitar and pounding techno beat: “We were dancing, we were wild up in the ocean / Ocean, ocean / Love the way you lie me down and break me open / Open, open”.

He further revealed in the comments that he was “trying” to release the collaboration, saying he was “not sure” when the song would be released.

The deep, raspy vocals had fans convinced the DJ had teamed up with Cyrus for his next summer anthem.

Now, however, there are reports the collaboration has been “discarded” with Harris deleting all social media posts teasing the track.

NME has reached out to representatives of Harris and Cyrus for comment.

Fans had hoped the collaboration might appear in time for Harris’ slate of summer appearances, where he is due to play a headline DJ set at TRMSMT Festival 2024 in Glasgow, joining Liam Gallagher and Gerry Cinnamon. He will also continue his residencies in Las Vegas and Ibiza.

It follows his recent Best Dance Act win at the BRITs 2024, beating out fellow contenders Fred Again.., Romy, Becky Hill and Barry Can’t Swim. Harris was also nominated in the Pop Act category, but lost to Dua Lipa.

Recently Harris spoke about his plans to quit DJing soon. “I always said that once I get past 50, I can’t see me DJing,” said Harris (via DJ Mag). “The more commercial end [of DJing], it gets a wee bit… a little bit suspect. I think I’d prefer to be in the studio making tunes.”

“I think that’s where the majority of my talent lies, making something sound good,” he further explained. “So I would like to make other people’s records sound good.”

In other news, Harris has hit back at critics who said his Ultra Music set was “underwhelming”
