Father John Misty performing at 2023 Outside Lands Music Festival

Father John Misty has teased two new songs, with one rumoured by fans to be titled ‘Josh Tillman And The Accidental Dose’. Check them out below.

Short clips of the songs were shared earlier this week by Father John Misty – real name Joshua Michael Tillman – on TikTok, Instagram and Youtube. Fans on Reddit have speculated that the first track is called ‘Josh Tillman And The Accidental Dose’, following previous live performances.

The first track, which was posted on Monday (June 17), features a jazz-inflicted piano and string instrumental, beneath the repeated lyrics “You’re in no shape“. Father John Misty posted it on his Instagram alongside an image of a CD covered in doodles and an illustration of Mickey Mouse.

A second snippet, which features elements of psychedelic pop, was shared yesterday (June 18), alongside the caption “just teasin’.” In the comment section, Misty responded to a fan asking if a new song was coming, saying: “not for a couple months just enjoy your clips.”

While neither track has been officially released yet, fan clips of Father John Misty performing one of the tracks – rumoured to be called ‘Josh Tillman And The Accidental Dose’ live in April 2023 – have begun circulating on Reddit. The second track has not yet been performed live.

It’s not yet confirmed if these songs will feature as part of a new project, but more details are expected to be shared at a later date.

Last year, Misty acted one of Lana Del Rey‘s support acts for her BST Hyde Park headline performance. This came after the pair united on Del Rey’s 2023 album ‘Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd’ for the duet ‘Let The Light In‘.

Father John Misty’s most recent album, ‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’, was released in 2022 and received five-stars from NME. In the review, Sophie Williams wrote: “‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’ showcases what Tillman’s imagination can do when it is set free to explore new and unpredictable sonic paths.

“‘Olvidado (Otro Momento)’, a shimmying bossa nova track that sees him sing in Spanish, never settles entirely, expanding its woozy ambience into a thick beat made up of quietly vast percussive flourishes. It’s a perfect example of how nothing on this album ends up quite where you’d expect it – including the ever-evolving artist who made it.”
