The Cocteau Twins have announced a reissue for their 1986 album with Harold Budd, ‘The Moon and The Melodies’ – find out more below.

The album has been remastered, and will be reissued on vinyl for the first time since its release in 1986. Besides being reissued on vinyl, ‘The Moon and The Melodies’ will also be available on CD format, as well as digital formats. It is due for release on August 23 and is now available for pre-order via 4AD and pre-saving on digital platforms.
The album’s remaster is overseen by the band’s Robin Guthrie using the original tapes from the project’s recording process.
Harold Budd died in late 2020 at the age of 84, as was confirmed by Robin Guthrie.
The band have also just launched their official store, which marks the first time since 1997 that official Cocteau Twins merchandise has gone on sale.
The group’s Simon Raymonde in May announced a new memoir, In One Ear – Cocteau Twins, Ivor and Me. The musician, producer and Bella Union co-founder is due to release the 352-page book on September 12 via Nine Eight Books. You can pre-order it here.
Cillian Murphy and Elton John have provided blurbs for the forthcoming In One Ear. John said: “This is a wonderful book of pop music history. Earlier this year, the Cocteau Twins reissued their final album, 1996’s ‘Milk & Kisses’.
The Cocteau Twins were founded in Grangemouth, Scotland in 1979 by guitarist Robin Guthrie and bassist Will Heggie and later completed by Elizabeth Fraser who was dating Guthrie at the time. They became known for their unique ethereal sound.
Following Heggie’s departure in 1983, the band spent a brief time as a duo before being joined by Simon Raymonde. They would go on to influence the likes of Prince, Annie Lennox, Slowdive, Lush, My Bloody Valentine and more.
They signed to 4AD in 1982 and went on to release six albums including the classic LP ‘Heaven Or Las Vegas’. Fraser and her partner Damon Reece (Massive Attack, Echo & The Bunnymen) formed a new project named Sun’s Signature and released a self-titled debut EP in 2022.
