David Beckham has responded to rumours that a Spice Girls reunion could be imminent.

The former girl group were last seen giving a surprise performance of their 1998 single ‘Stop’ at Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party in April, and the event led many to speculate that a comeback could be happening.

The former England captain posted the clip on his official Instagram account, showing Emma Bunton, Melanie C, Geri Halliwell and Mel B joining Victoria as they sang and danced along to ‘Stop’.

However, Victoria’s husband has now said that another return isn’t on the cards.

“Unfortunately, that’s not happening,” he told Variety magazine. “Victoria was so pleased to see the girls, and it was a massive part of her life, but obviously, all the girls have got their own things going on,” he said. “They will do certain things together at certain times.”

He continued: “I know it’s what people want, but in all honesty, I think I was the most excited of anyone.”

He went on to say that he loved seeing “all of the girls in one room”, adding: “They haven’t been on a stage together for over 15 years. So, to have them all there, to have them all up on stage, to have our youngest son playing guitar?”

He also explained that Victoria is too busy to fit anything else into her schedule. “If anyone’s busier than me, it’s her,” he said.

Speculation has been swirling in recent months about a possible Spice Girls reunion, with Mel B fuelling the rumours last month by hinting that the group would “definitely [be] doing something” for their 30th anniversary.

Initially, many fans speculated that they would be coming together to fill the legends slot at Glastonbury this year. However, those hopes were dashed when the official line-up dropped, confirming that the mammoth slot has been filled instead by Shania Twain.

Back in 2019, Mel B, Halliwell, Bunton and Mel C reformed without Beckham and did a 10-stop UK and Ireland stadium tour. It was the first time in 11 years that they had toured together.

The following year, there were reports of the Spice Girls embarking on a world tour in celebration of their 25th anniversary, before the COVID pandemic took hold

In 2021, rumours emerged again about the potential for another Spice Girls live comeback in 2023 that included Beckham. Bunton said she was “sure” the band would return to the stage post-COVID, while Mel C later told Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 that she wished she “could say there were shows coming”, but couldn’t.

More recently, the British girl group featured on a series of limited-edition stamps issued by Royal Mail to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
