In recent news about the 2024 edition, Download organisers issued new traffic advice to avoid a repeat of the “unprecedented” congestion that occurred last year.

Meanwhile, festival boss Andy Copping has revealed that a “big band” will perform a surprise set at this weekend’s event.

“One thing’s for sure, you’ve got to keep your eyes and ears peeled for this year at Download because, yes, we have another band coming in doing a secret set,” he explained.

“Something very, very special. Big band. So look out for that.”

It was also confirmed that Funeral For A Friend would be replacing Bad Omens on the Download ’24 line-up. The latter band announced that they’d pulled out last month due to frontman Noah Sebastian suffering from “extreme burnout”.

In the run up to the festival, some artists have backed out of the event in solidarity with Palestine. This comes as a result of the festival being sponsored by Barclays, which has ties to Israel.

The first artist to drop out of the 2024 edition was Leeds hardcore band Pest Control who announced they would be pulling out as they would not “take part in an event whose sponsor profits from facilitating a genocide”.

At the start of this week, it was then reported that Scowl, Speed and Zulu had become the latest bands to join Pest Control, and had all pulled out of Download 2024 over its partnership with the bank.

The boycott follows on from the major boycott of The Great Escape in Brighton last month, also due to its ties with Barclays. Over 100 acts dropped out of this year’s Great Escape Festival in solidarity with Palestine – constituting approximately a quarter of the full programme. Multiple artists have now announced that they will be boycotting Latitude 2024 for the same reason.
