Capcom has confirmed it will be nerfing the random dragonsplague event in a future update to Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragonsplaque is a random event that occurs when a pawn is hired from another player. The disease slowly takes hold of the infected pawn and, if it’s not treated in time, can lead to entire villages being wiped out by the disease.

Pawns infected with dragonsplague can be identified by their glowing red eyes, moodier-than-usual responses and headache-like symptoms. However, these signs are subtle and happen intermittently, leading to many players missing the signs and coming back to devastated settlements.

However, in a new update, Capcom has promised to make dragonsplague less deadly. According to the patch notes, the upcoming update will “reduce the infection frequency of dragonsplague” and “adjust the signs of pawns infected with dragonsplague to make them more noticeable”.

“For example, when infected, glowing eyes will be more noticeable,” the notes continued.

There is no release date for the next Dragon’s Dogma 2 update, but Capcom will share it “as soon as it is ready”.

Elsewhere, the planned update will focus on adjusting the behaviours and dialogue of pawns. This includes making it less likely for a pawn to wander off a cliff edge and making a hi-5 more likely. A number of bug fixes are also planned.

Director Hideaki Itsuno reportedly wanted the plaque mechanic in the original Dragon’s Dogma game but couldn’t due to technical limitations. “AI behaviours, which had been simplified due to the limitations of the PS3 at the time, are simulated more realistically in the sequel,” he told Automaton Media.

Earlier this month, Dragon’s Dogma 2 players discovered that Capcom had been hiring pawns using fake profiles. The company has also been surveying players on their thoughts about paid expansions to Dragon’s Dogma 2

In other news, Paradox Interactive has confirmed it will be delaying the release of Prison Architect 2 following a number of issues with the launch of Cities: Skylines 2.
