Drake and Lil Yachty have been given a potential lifeline and could release their recently-leaked song, currently dubbed ‘Super Soaker’.
Earlier this month, Yachty gave popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat the track to leak on a broadcast. The trap-inspired record samples the internet personality Mr HotSpot’s song ‘Goodness Gracious’.
It was later revealed that he had refused Drake and Yachty’s request to clear the sample, citing his recent religious conversion as the reason for withholding permission.
During a recent TikTok Live broadcast, however, HotSpot changed his mind and said he would clear the sample – if Drake and Yachty did a clean version of the song and altered some lyrics to make it more child-friendly.

“We recorded them a clean reference,” he told his audience. “We sent that in [for] them so hopefully they re-record the clean reference and we come out with the clean ‘Goodness Gracious’ all together.
“It’s a process but it’ll be good for both of their brands like that and I’m blessed to work with children so we just gotta make it clean for them.”
He added: “We don’t need no children getting whooped cause they said this or that. If you look at the backside, it’s the children who really running these views up so if we can make sure both verses [are] clean – everybody coming clean, everybody gonna benefit for sure.
“We ain’t trying to hold them back from nothing but we just need the morals correct, that’s all.”
During an appearance on comedian Andrew Schultz’s Flagrant podcast last week, Lil Yachty appeared unhappy that Mr HotSpot had rejected his and Drake’s request.
“He went down, like, a Christian path,” he explained, adding that HotSpot wasn’t interested in being compensated for the sample. “I don’t think we got into money. He was like, ‘No’. It was crazy, Everyone was like, ‘Are you serious?’”
Yachty also suggested that he and Drake could still perform the song and make money from it that way.
There was some online backlash for Drake and Yachty’s choice to leak ‘Super Soaker’, despite Mr HotSpot’s religious objections. Days later, Yachty took to Instagram Live to tell fans he was stepping away from social media.
“I ain’t posting no more shit,” he said. “I’m not posting no fits. I’m deleting the apps off my phone, I swear to God. I’m not tweeting. I’m minding my fucking business, man.”
The action also came weeks after the Atlanta rapper received major criticism for saying that Atlanta is more influential in fashion and pop culture than New York City. Yachty tried to clarify his point on TikTok, but was still criticised by many New York public figures including rapper Juelz Santana.
Additionally, Soulja Boy thought Drake was taking a jab at him, thinking he was referencing his SODMG record label and his 2007 hit ‘Super Soak’. Following a heated social media rant aimed at the 6God, the ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone’ star later clarified that he and Drake resolved the misunderstanding and “it wasn’t no diss” at him.
In other news, Yachty was featured on the soundtrack for the Despicable Me 4 movie, which was released last month.
He has also announced that he and OVO signee PartyNextDoor will be dropping a joint album this autumn.
